Dr. Rajendra Prasad, born in Ziradei village of Siwan district, was the first President of the Republic of India (1950-1962) and the only President to be elected twice. A brilliant scholar, lawyer and freedom fighter, he was a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi and played a key role in the Champaran Satyagraha. He served as the President of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the Constitution of India. Ziradei, his ancestral village in Siwan, remains a place of national historic importance and pride for the entire district.
